What is the difference between on-demand, reserved instances (RI), and savings plan (SP) cost?
On-demand, reserved instances (RI), and savings plan (SP) are pricing models offered by the cloud service provider i.e. AWS (see the details on AWS EC2 pricing page). The differences between those costs are described below.
- On-demand cost: Cost that you pay for only the compute time you use. No upfront costs or minimum contracts apply.
- Reserved instances (RI) cost: Cost that shows the sum of both the upfront and hourly rate of the reserved instance, averaged into an effective hourly rate.
- Savings plan (SP) cost: Cost that shows the proportion of the Savings Plan monthly commitment amount (upfront and recurring) that is allocated to each usage line.
Can I customize cost analytics dashboard to certain project or account only?
Yes, you can. It is done by specifying the resources to be monitored in certain project or account then save as saved filters. Afterwards, user can use the saved filters to create widgets on a dedicated dashboard. You can indicate the project on the dashboard name and description, as well.
Is there a limit to the number of widgets in a dashboard and the number of dashboards I can create?
No limits to the number of widgets and dashboards, you can create as much as you need.
Can I view the raw data that builds the graph on a widget?
Yes, you can. For viewing the raw data currently used by a widget, you can view the widget details.
What is the difference between linear and logarithmic axis in a widget?
A linear axis uses an equal value between scales providing an equal distance between values. On the other hand, a logarithmic axis uses the percentage of change to plot data points, so, the scales are not positioned equidistantly. Please see the example below.
Linear
Logarithmic (Might not be suitable with the data)
Are all recommendations in the cost optimization module based on real-time data?
All nimbus stream data is always updated on a daily basis, so it will be in line with the CSPs' data as well as their policy such as latest pricing and discounts.
Why can’t I find purchase recommendation for GCP?
